The diversity of Liability claims, (general,
product, professional ..) and the opportunity for losses to occur in any
field of activity gives rise to a product that is difficult to categorise.
Despite these differences, all Liability claims require
the adjuster to display a sound knowledge of insurance, the requisite
technical experience specific to the type of claim, and knowledge of the
law and jurisprudence relating to contractual and non-contractual, consumer
disputes etc…
As a result of these differences OTERIN has
created a specialist Liability Division to handle Liability claims.
We are conscious that Insurers require many
different levels of involvement in Liability claims, from a basic site
inspection to a full investigation designed to lead to the provision of
commercial and technical solutions and settlement of the claim. Regardless
of the level of claims service required, our adjusters are trained to
investigate to establish where responsibility lies.
The Liability Division is managed by a legally
qualified team, which coordinates the activities of all adjusters within
the OTERIN network. This team
controls claims from receipt of instructions through to the issue of
reports, and will ensure the appointment of an adjuster with relevant
technical expertise, who is able to undertake detailed and impartial
enquiries. The interests of Insurers are protected at all times.
In the case of major and complex losses, it will
often be necessary to form a team comprising a Liability expert alongside
technicians from the relevant field, such as our Construction, Engineering
and Aviation Divisions or external consultants, where necessary.
